Interior Designer

ZEN Associates, a design + build firm located in Woburn, MA, is looking for an experienced interior designer to join our expanding interior design team, full-time or part-time. Qualified candidates will  3+ years of experience, a background in architecture or interior design, and a solid understanding of construction and detail drawings. Strong knowledge of high-end furniture, lighting, and materials a plus. Full-time position with potential for part-time for the right candidate.

We expect candidates to share our design style which is contemporary with clean lines and architectural details. Our work has been published in Architectural Digest, New England Home Magazine, Home & Design, and Florida Design. The majority of projects are high-end residential.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities / Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with and knowledge of construction drawings.
  • Comfortable working with and creating hand sketches.
  • Excellent design sense, good judgment of colors and space, adaptability, enthusiasm, cheerful, and willingness to learn.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly competent, presentable, intelligent, team player and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in programs including AutoCAD, Sketch Up or REVIT, Photoshop, and InDesign.

Education and/or Experience

Senior Landscape Architect/Manager, Landscape Designer

Senior Landscape Designer-Department Manager

We are currently looking for a senior level Landscape Architect to oversee, manage and develop our Landscape Architecture Department. Our projects are diverse as we provide services to both the public and private sectors.  Projects include master planning and complex site design, urban gardens, rooftop gardens, and commercial projects throughout the eastern seaboard.

The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of experience in the high-end residential design field. They will have experience managing and mentoring a design team to produce exceptional results while collaborating with other senior-level department managers throughout the Design + Build process. In addition to being a great designer, the ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of and experience with all facets of the design process from concept design and construction documentation to permitting, construction administration, and implementation assistance.

Duties, Responsibilities, Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Managing, developing, and overseeing the department staff, budgets, and quality of work.
  • Mentoring and professional development of team, hiring and recruiting landscape architecture talent.
  • Skilled project manager with the ability to prioritize project design tasks and responsibilities, in concert with construction administration and business development.
  • Thoughtful and creative design approach with the ability to independently generate unique conceptual design solutions in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong freehand and computer graphics, with the ability to present illustrative site plan renderings to clients.
  • Advanced AutoCAD skills are essential, with proficiency in Photoshop and SketchUp
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the New England planting palette and experience in developing proposed planting plans.
  • Practical field skills including existing site conditions review and documentation, development of design base plans, establishment of elevations, and field layout of proposed construction elements.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all technical skills for our profession.
  • Ability to collaborate with Architects, Civil Engineers, Consultants, Project Managers and Contractors.
  • Experience with municipal permitting processes, including zoning and by-law reviews, public speaking, and presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities with experience in the development of proposals and other business-related material
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft 365

Education & Licensure:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program
  • Licensure is strongly preferred

Landscape Designer

ZEN Associates, Inc. is currently looking for a full-time landscape designer/architect with at least 3 years of experience with complex high-end residential design projects. This position will support our growing Landscape Architecture practice by providing site planning, pools, masonry, planting, urban and landscape design, and graphic and technical production. Project experiences will be diverse, as we provide services to both the public and private sectors. Projects include residential estates, urban gardens, and rooftop gardens throughout the Northeast seaboard for a variety of great clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities / Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Working knowledge of graphic software programs (Adobe Photoshop, Sketch-Up, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Strong freehand illustration and rendering skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented, and a strong work ethic

Project Estimator

ZEN Associates, Inc. is currently looking for a full-time Senior and Assistant Project Estimator to join our team. We are searching for individuals who have experience estimating residential and commercial landscape construction projects.

The candidate should be knowledgeable in all phases of site construction including grading, excavation, concrete, masonry, planting, and subcontracting. They must have a firm understanding of the construction process and understand production rates for both large and small projects. We build residential and commercial projects on the ground, on rooftops, and indoors.

We are a fast-paced and creative firm whose work has been featured in many publications including Architectural Digest and New England Home. Instead of working on the same type of projects over and over, we work on unique projects every day.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities / Knowledge & Skills

  • Conducting pre-bid review and analysis with management or designers
  • Sourcing and obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Preparing preliminary Cost Estimates and bid forms
  • Preparing Cost Proposals and Contract Agreements
  • Preparing project budgets and schedules as may be needed
  • Be familiar with QuickBooks and an interfacing estimating software package such as ProEst, Sage, etc.
  • Be organized, motivated, and a self-starter
  • Be experienced and proficient with Microsoft Office and the creative use of the WEB
  • Comfortable in a dynamic design/build office working with a team of Landscape Architects, Construction Managers, and Interior designers

Construction Project Manager

ZEN Associates, Inc. is currently looking for full-time Construction Project Managers to join our team. The key responsibility of this position will be to manage and supervise multiple projects from start to finish. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing staff, subcontractors, schedules, and budgets in order to deliver a well-built project on time and within a budget. This is a hands-on management position requiring excellent organizational skills and a fundamental understanding of the landscape construction industry. Project types include large residential and commercial landscapes, urban courtyards and rooftops incorporating decks, pools, masonry walls and pavements, planting, lights, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities / Knowledge & Skills

  • Oversee the scheduling and overall construction of those projects including the coordination of all materials, staff, equipment and subcontractors required to produce a quality job and to maximize efficiency and gauge progress.
  • Review construction packages (contract, budget, drawings, and schedule) prior to beginning construction. Identify and request additional information needed for construction. Distribute and maintain construction package during construction.
  • Communicate with the management team in organizing crews, procuring materials, fleet, tools and equipment, and construction personnel.
  • Approve timesheets, invoices, and daily site reports on all projects that you are responsible for.
  • Manage project close-outs and follow-ups.
  • Communicate with the design and construction management team.
  • Create and maintain gantt schedules.
  • Ensure crews are properly representing the company and following company policies.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service to managers and employees.
  • Solid knowledge of landscape construction processes, hardscapes, and horticulture.
  • Ability to work with production teams and identify opportunities for improvement.

Purchasing Manager - Horticulture

ZEN Associates, Inc is looking for a full-time Purchasing Manager for our Horticultural procurement.  Qualified candidates will be experienced horticulturists with extensive knowledge of the New England Nursery industry. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day procurement of the highest quality plant material while managing budget expectations.  This position will be the primary contact point for vendors, therefore establishing strong working relationships and comparing materials prices and services to pursue the most profitable course in line with business objectives is key.  The ideal candidate will be personable, have a passion for the green industry, be a team member and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities / Knowledge & Skills

  • Build relationships with existing vendors and identify new vendors to service emerging needs
  • Research and evaluate suppliers on price, quality, selection, service, and availability
  • Visit nurseries and growers to hand-select the appropriate plants of the best quality
  • Work closely with our design and construction teams to understand design intent, identify and source plant material and ensure the proper installation of plant material on our projects
  • Identify procurement processes to be improved or made more efficient
  • Work with project managers to ensure materials availability and scheduling
  • Organize plants and other relevant job materials according to work orders for installation crews for next day’s jobs.
  • Maintain inventory of plant material and supplies needed for day-to-day operations and unexpected events.

Education and/or Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent field of study, and/or 5+ years of professional work experience in a horticultural-related position
  • Strong knowledge of plant material and horticultural practices. MCH or other Horticulture Certification is a plus.  Proficient knowledge of plant nomenclature and the fluency of use.
  • Background in hardscape materials and installation process a plus
